International Rescue Cat Day is a celebration of second chances – but itās also a celebration of resilience.
For me, this day will always be connected to two unforgettable moments in the summer of 2025.
The moment I met Freddie.
And the moment I met Penny. šš
Freddie & Pennyās Rescue Journey
In early summer 2025, Cats Protection found Freddie and Penny in a multi-cat household where they were living in very poor condition.
They needed help. Fast.
Their journey from there included:
- š„ Isolation to check their health and ensure they were safe
- š” Foster care to give them stability and calm
- š¾ Shelter support to prepare them for adoption
By the end of June 2025, they were ready to find their forever home.
And thatās when I walked in.
The Moment Everything Changed
You often hear that rescue cats are nervous. Withdrawn. Unsure.
Freddie and Penny clearly didnāt get that memo.
The moment I met them, they came straight over. No hesitation. No fear.
Freddie was full of confidence and affection – curious, energetic, and already demanding attention like he owned the place.
Penny followed close behind, bright-eyed and playful, full of life and completely open-hearted.
Even after everything they had been throughā¦
They chose love.
Thatās something I will never forget.
What Rescue Cats Teach Us
Freddie and Penny could have been fearful. They could have been guarded.
Instead, they were affectionate, energetic, and ready to trust again.
Rescue cats are often described by what happened to them – neglect, overcrowding, difficult beginnings.
But they are so much more than their past.
Freddieās personality?
Needy, loving, always close by, happiest when involved in everything Iām doing.
Pennyās personality?
Independent but deeply connected, playful, confident, and quietly observant.
They didnāt arrive broken.
They arrived brave.
Why International Rescue Cat Day Matters
Rescue organisations like Cats Protection step into difficult situations every single day:
- Overcrowded households
- Neglect cases
- Abandonment
- Owners unable to cope
They give cats medical care. Safety. Time. Dignity.
Without that intervention, Freddie and Pennyās story could have been very different.
Instead, they now live surrounded by toys, cosy beds, garden views, treats, and endless affection.
They are the heart behind everything I do with Happy Tails.
Adoption Isnāt Just a Rescue – Itās a Beginning
When you adopt, you donāt just āsaveā a cat.
You gain:
- A companion
- A daily source of joy
- A reason to smile when you walk into a room
- A constant reminder of resilience
Freddie still greets me like Iāve been gone for years – even if Iāve only made a cup of tea.
Penny still charges around with bursts of playful energy that make the whole house feel alive.
Their start in life may have been uncertain.
But their future is full of warmth, stability, and love.

A Thank You From My Heart

And because of them, mine is brighter every single day.

And I will forever be grateful that they chose me. šš
