Easter weekend arrived, and for the very first time, Freddie and Penny had their humans all to themselves for four whole days. From the moment Good Friday began, something felt different. The usual rush of alarms, getting ready, and heading out the door was replaced with slow mornings, extra cuddles, and the comforting sense that everyone was staying home together.
The real excitement began when Mum decided it was time for a deep clean of the living room. As soon as the furniture started to move, Freddie immediately appointed himself Head of Operations. He positioned himself directly in the middle of everything, carefully supervising each movement with great importance. Whether it was inspecting corners, batting at dusters, or simply refusing to move when asked, Freddie was convinced he was being extremely helpful.
While Freddie focused on his “very important” role in furniture logistics, Penny discovered something far more exciting. Hidden beneath the sofa and tucked behind cabinets was a collection of long-lost treasures – colourful balls, scrunchies, and favourite toys that had disappeared weeks before. One by one, they reappeared, and with each new discovery, Penny’s excitement grew. It was, quite possibly, the best day she had ever had.
As the weekend unfolded, it became clear that Penny had taken on another role entirely. Between playtime and naps, she could often be found quietly observing as Mum worked on some exciting ideas for Happy Tails. There were boxes, plans, and moments of curiosity that Penny seemed very invested in. While she has chosen to keep most of the details a secret for now, it’s safe to say she played a very important part behind the scenes and she has excellent taste.
Later that weekend, the family settled down to watch the football together. Freddie and Penny, loyal supporters of Liverpool F.C., watched closely alongside their dad. Unfortunately, the result didn’t quite go their way, which led to a few disappointed tail flicks and at least one dramatic sigh, mostly from Freddie. Even so, it did little to dampen the mood, as the weekend still had plenty more to offer.
With no work alarms to worry about, evenings stretched longer than usual, and the house felt warmer and more relaxed. This did, however, create a small challenge for Freddie. His beloved armchair – which he considers entirely his own – was often occupied by Mum. This led to some careful negotiation, a bit of strategic hovering, and the occasional attempt to squeeze in beside her. Whether successful or not, it always resulted in even more snuggles.
Both Freddie and Penny enjoyed more freedom than usual over the long weekend. They spent extra time in the kitchen, received more treats than they would ever admit to, and made the most of every opportunity to play, explore, and simply be close to their humans.
More than anything, though, it was the togetherness that made the weekend so special. Four days filled with laughter, warmth, and the simple joy of being exactly where they were meant to be – in their forever home.
And if you asked Freddie and Penny, there’s no doubt about it.
It was the perfect Easter.
And while Penny is staying very quiet about exactly what she was working on… let’s just say some of those ideas might be making their way into Happy Tails very soon 👀🐾
